Introduction
Brazil's automotive market has shown a growing appetite for electric vehicles, with a significant increase in sales in the first half of 2026. According to data released by the National Federation of Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave), the number of registrations of 100% electric cars tripled compared to the same period last year, reaching 90,470 new vehicles.
Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Sales
In addition to the growth in sales of pure electric vehicles, sales of hybrid vehicles, which combine electric and combustion engines, also showed a significant increase. Jumping from 83,468 in the first half of 2025 to 154,472 in the first six months of 2026, these sales grew 85%.
Hybrid cars have been well received in the national market, representing the largest volume among electrified vehicles, according to Arcelio Junior, president of Fenabrave. Federal programs, such as Move Brazil Taxi and Applications, have incentivized the sale of these models, especially those priced up to R$ 150,000.

Considering all types of vehicles, Fenabrave reported that 1.42 million new vehicles were registered in Brazil in the first half, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven mainly by sales of passenger cars, which increased more than 23% in the period. On the other hand, sales of trucks and buses decreased slightly, around 9%.
The market expectation for the rest of 2026 is positive, with forecasts of an increase of almost 8% in sales compared to 2025. This signals continued growth in the automotive sector, driven by demand for more sustainable and efficient vehicles.
